Brass milliners iron

 A brass and steel felt iron in the shape of a leaf. This piece is well made and it dates from c.1920. These were milliners irons and they were used for making felt or lace decorations for hats. The fabric was washed and starched and then placed over the brass section. The steel section was heated and then pressed into the brass section. It would then be allowed to cool, to form the shape, and the excess fabric would be trimmed. There is very slight scratching to the reverse of the brass section  and there is a split in the wooden handle.
