A French, steel and brass lace, or felt, iron. This type of iron was used for making lace or felt decorations for hats. The fabric was washed and starched and then laid across the brass section. The steel section, which would have been heated, was then placed into the brass section and the fabric would be trimmed, leaving an attractive leaf form. The design in this piece is very well detailed and it dates from c.1920. The side of the iron is marked with the number '92' over '3'. The handle is turned from a hardwood and there is a short crack in the handle. Other than that the piece is in very good condition.
