A large, brass and steel felt iron with a wooden handle. This type of iron was used for making shapes from felt or lace, for ornamenting hats. This is a particularly large example in the shape of a sunflower. The felt or lace was starched and then put into the brass section and pressed into shape with the steel section. Both sections are stamped with a number ‘527’ over ‘2’. It dates from c.1920 and it is in excellent condition.
Overall dimensions: Length 26.3cm. Diameter 10cm. Height 6cm. It would produce a sunflower with a 9cm. diameter and 1.8cm. depth.
