19th Cent. French Copper Skimmer

A late nineteenth century, circular, French copper skimmer. This would have been used for skimming the scum from jams and preserves or meat or vegetable stocks. It is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1890. The end of the handle is turned, in the shape of a shepherd’s crook, so that the skimmer can hang when not in use.
