A French copper casserole which was probably made to be taken on campaigns. It is made from a relatively light gauge of copper and the folding brass handles would allow it to be packed into a smaller space than if the handles were solid. This makes it much easier for transportation. It is well made with castellated seams around the base and up the side and dates from c.1840. The handles are quite simple in form, being made for practicality rather than decoration. This is an unusual piece and it is in excellent condition. We have not had it re-tinned but the tinning is still in very good, usable condition.
