A super quality, French copper, 2 pan, bain marie. This is a most unusual piece in this form and it dates from c. 1860. It is very well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and the bain marie has castellated seams around the base and up the side. The brass handles are of exceptional quality. They are really well designed so that they fold down but when lifted they will only raise to the perfect height for lifting the piece. The bain marie has a flat cover into which sit the small pans for making the sauces and these are kept about 3cm. above the base of the bain marie so they will be completely surround by water and the sauces won't burn. Both the design and the manufacture of this are top quality. The small pan is 10cm. diameter and the larger one is 12cm. diameter There is slight pitting to the steel handles of the saucepans but otherwise it is all in excellent condition. The interiors of the pans have been re-tinned so that it can be used.
