Deep, French copper preserve pan

Deep, French copper preserve pan

Code: F17991

SOLD

A very deep, French copper preserve pan. The base to this pan is slightly rounded and, originally, it would have been used on an open fire. Now it could still be used on gas but it would be no good on electric or an Aga, where the whole of the base of the pan needs to make contact with the heat. It has the typical, French style of brass handles to either side. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. There is slight pitting to the copper in the base of the pan, from use, and there are a few very tiny dents to the copper on the side of the pan.
The pan measures 36.5cm diameter by 19cm high and the overall dimensions, including the handles, are 43cm wide by 23cm. high.
