A French copper daubiere and cover. This is a very good quality piece, made from a very heavy gauge of copper and having castellated seams around the base and up the side. It has the typical, French shape of brass handles to the sides and an attractive shaped brass handle to the lid. It dates from c.1860. Originally this was made for use on an open fire or range cooker. The lid would have been filled with coals so it then acted as a slow cooker, cooking from the top as well as from the bottom. There is very slight pitting to the copper, from use, but otherwise it is in excellent condition and the interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used.
Dimensions: Length of pan 34.2cm. Width 18.3cm. Depth 19cm. Overall length including the handles 46.5cm. Overall width 22cm. Overall height 24.2cm.
