A good quality, 19th century, French copper egg bowl. This type of untinned, round bottomed bowl, with a folding handle, was used for whisking egg whites. The copper reacts with the egg to give a light, fluffier meringue. This example is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and the copper has a planished finish. The rim is rolled and there is a heavy, brass ring handle attached by a simple copper fitting. It dates from c.1880 and is in excellent condition.
