Small, French Copper Daubiere

Small, French Copper Daubiere

Code: H21321

SOLD

A fairly small, French copper daubiere or braising pan. This is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and it has castellated seams around the base and up the side. It has a simple, copper strap handle to the lid and large, solid, copper loop handles to the sides. It dates from c.1860. This type of pan was made for use on a range and hot coals would be put into the lid so that the contents had all round heat, cooking slowly from the top as well as the bottom. The base to this pan is now quite convex, so not the best for cooking in anymore, but it would make a very attractive bread bin. There is slight pitting to the copper, from use, but otherwise it is in good condition. The tinning to the interior is still in good, usable condition.

Dimensions: Length of pan 33cm. Width of pan 19.5cm. Depth of pan 18.6cm. Overall length including the handles 48cm. Overall height including the handle 26cm.
