Small, French Preserve Pan

Small, French Preserve Pan

Code: H21322

SOLD

A small, but very heavy, 19th century, French copper preserve pan. This is made from an exceptionally heavy gauge of copper and it has unusually large copper handles which are made from square sections of copper which are beaten out on the ends to form the fittings. It is quite unconventional, and probably blacksmith made, and it dates from c.1840. It is marked, to the side, with the initials “C R” to either side of an asterisk. This is probably the mark of a previous owner. There is marking in the copper handles, which is from the manufacture, but there is also slight pitting to the copper from use. Otherwise the piece is in very good condition.

Dimensions: Diameter or pan 32.5cm. Depth 11.3cm. Overall width including the handles 33.2cm. Overall height including the handles 20cm.
