A superb, Wedgwood basalt, pedestal bowl. It is marked 'WEDGWOOD' , to the base, and it dates from c.1880. It also has an impressed letter 'J'. This is a most unusual form to find in basalt. It is sprig moulded with a very elaborate design which resembles lace work. There is a wide band of trellis, and garlands of flowers, to the rim, and beneath this are alternating, vertical panels. The quality of the moulding is exceptionally fine and the overall effect is very decorative. It is in excellent condition.
