A fine quality, Wedgwood black basalt bust of Shakespeare. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” to both the back of the bust and also to the underside of the socle. It dates from c.1860. It is well modelled, with good detail. Often these library busts were set on square bases as well as the circular sole but this example is well proportioned without the square base. It is in excellent condition and the basalt has good patination.
