Wedgwood Basalt 'Emblems' Bowl

A small, Wedgwood black basalt bowl moulded with the emblems of the United Kingdom. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1880. It is also impressed with a number ’54’ which is probably a batch number. The jug is press moulded with a scrolling design which incorporates harps, roses, thistles and shamrocks above a band of acanthus leaves and flowers. It was known as the Union  Bowl as it was designed to represent the union of the countries in the U.K. It is in excellent condition.
