A Wedgwood, black basalt, lidded, hot water jug. This would have been part of a tea set, to serve the hot water for pouring onto the tea. It is marked ‘ WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND’ and it dates from c.1920. It is also impressed with a number ’24’ which would be a batch number. It is decorated, in relief, with classical figures offing sacrifices. To the rim is a border of grapes and vines and to the lid is a band of acanthus leaves. The reliefs are good quality and both the jug and lid are in excellent condition.
