A Wedgwood basalt coffeepot with raised enamel and gilt decoration. This style of decoration was copied from the Chinese designs and Wedgwood named his “Capriware”. He introduced this type of decoration in 1815. This piece is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it is also impressed with three letters together, “KDU”. This is the three letter system of dating which dates the piece to 1866. The polychrome enamel decoration is very well executed and both the pot and cover are in excellent condition.
