A plain Wedgwood basalt jardiniere. This is impressed, to the base, 'WEDGWOOD ENGLAND 1891'. This is quite an interesting mark as 1891 was the year that Wedgwood first introduced the word England to their marks so this would definately be the year of manufacture. Although heavily potted the basalt has a good, smooth finish, which is essential due to the lack of any decoration. The piece is very elegant in its simplicity and works equally well in a contemporary or period home.
