Wedgwood cruet set.

Wedgwood cruet set.

A boxed, Wedgwood, dark blue jasper dip  cruet set with silver mounts. It is quite unusual to find a set like this, from this period, still in its’ original box. It comprises a pepper shaker, a mustard pot, four open salts and five salt spoons. All of the jasper items are decorated, in relief, with classical subjects, and they are all marked “WEDGWOOD ENGLAND”. The mustard pot and pepper shaker depict Pegasus and the salts show Putti at play. All pieces are in excellent condition. The silver rims and spoons are all hallmarked but the hallmarks do vary. Some are from the Chester Assay Office and some are from the Birmingham Assay Office. The hallmark are all dating between 1907 and 1909. Inside the lid of the box it is marked in gilt, on the silk lining, “GENUINE WEDGWOOD STERLING SILVER MOUNTS 1909”. So it is most likely that these pieces were put together for sale in the box in 1909 although some items were actually made a couple of years earlier. Unfortunately the box has suffered over the years and both the hinges and catch are broken.

Dimensions of Box: Length 27cm. Depth 20cm. Height 7.5cm. Each salt is 6.5cm. diameter by 3cm. high. Pepper pot 6.5cm high. Mustard pot 6cm. high.
