A lovely quality, Wedgwood, lilac japer dip biscuit barrel or cookie jar. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1870. During the 19th century lilac coloured jasper was only made in small quantities and the colour can vary considerably from a bright lilac to quite a mushy colour. This is a particularly vibrant and attractive shade of lilac. It is decorated, in white relief, with a band of classical figures, trees and foliage. The mounts are silver plated and the piece is in excellent condition.
