Wedgwood Majolica Dessert Service

Wedgwood Majolica Dessert Service

Code: J22211

SOLD

A Wedgwood, Majolica, part dessert service comprising comport, two serving dishes and ten plates. Each plate and dish is moulded in the form of a shell and the comport stand is in the shape of three classical dolphins or sturgeons. The pieces are then covered in green, brown and yellow majolica glazes. Each piece has an impressed “WEDGWOOD” mark and they also have date code marks. However, these vary from “ADR” which is the date code for 1863 to “MTV” which is the code for 1867, so the service is a marriage and has not been together all of its life. The comport has been repaired. At some time the top has become detached from the stand and it has been riveted back together. There is also a chip under the rim. This can all be seen in the images. One of the plates has the tiniest chip on the rim and the other nine are in excellent condition. The two dishes are in good condition although the smaller one has glaze crazing to the reverse.
