A wooden sugar mould carved with a stylised classical shell shape and a scroll. The carving in this mould is deep and very well detailed. It is carved in a boxwood, it is English and it dates from c.1820. There is large crack running across the mould but this is now stable. The wood has a lovely rich patina. Moulds of this type were used for both fancy sugar work and also for gesso.
