A large, wooden gesso, or sugar mould, carved with laurel leaves and berries. The carving in this mould is very deep and well detailed and it is carved in a boxwood. It is marked “WALL” and “G.S.” Wall is the name of the carver. It is also carved with the number ‘925’ in the end. It is English, it dates from c.1820 and it is in very good condition. The wood has a lovely rich patina. Moulds of this type were used for both gesso and also for fancy sugar work.
