An early 19th century, carved wooden gesso or sugar mould. This is carved, in walnut, with a small, floral garland. The wood has an interesting grain and the carving is very finely detailed. This type of mould was used for moulding gesso for decorative plasterwork but they were also used for moulding sugar. This particular mould could have been used for either.

English. Date: c.1820

It is in very good condition with just a couple of historic woodworm holes. The wood has a lovely colour and patina.
