A large, French copper salmon or pike kettle. This type of pan, originally for cooking fish, now make excellent jardinieres on a large windowsill or in the centre of a long table. This one is well made, from a very heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. It has castellated seams around the base and up both ends, and the handles are the typical French shape, made from brass. The end of the pan is marked with a number ’65’ which relates to the internal measurement of the piece in centimetres. It is in excellent condition but the tinning is well worn so it could no longer be used for cooking.
