 A wooden pie mould. This mould is made from beechwood and it dates from c.1880. This type of mould is for making a hand raised pork pie. You would cut a circle of pastry. The mould is then placed into the centre of the circle and the pastry is raised up, around the sides of the mould. The mould would then be removed, the pie filled, and the pastry top put onto the pie. This example has a slightly domed base so it does not sit flat. The wood has an interesting grain but there is some marking where something small and circular has been impressed into the wood. Otherwise it is in very good condition.
