An interesting steel, ice or sugar cleaver in the shape of a heavy horse. This cleaver has a clear plastic handle. This type of plastic is more commonly known by one of its’ trade names, ‘Perspex’. This was originally developed in 1928 and came into use from 1933, so the cleaver would date from c.1935, being an early example of the use of this material. The cleaver is well shaped, as a heavy horse with a flowing mane. There is some scratching to the steel, from use, and there is slight some discolouration, under the perspex on the handle, which could be rust. Other than this the piece is in good condition.
