An interesting, 19th century, French copper casserole with a spout. This piece is very unusual due to the small spout at the one end. The purpose of this has to be to allow the steam out, so that the liquid content of whatever is being cooked will reduce. We have not seen anything quite like this before. It is rectangular in form, with rounded corners, it has castellated seams around the base and up the side and it has fairly simple, steel handles. It dates from c.1860 and has seen plenty of use as the handles to the lid are quite worn. Other than this it is in very good condition and the interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used. The casserole is 24cm. long by 15.6cm. wide by 12.7cm. high. Overall, including the handles, it measures 34cm. long by 16.5cm. high.
