An early 19th century, silver resist, lustre jug. This jug is finely potted, in pearlware, and it dates from c.1820. The design, which consists of stylised bunches of grapes and vine leaves, was painted onto the pot with a form of oil. It was then dipped in the lustre glaze and the oil resisted the glaze, so the design showed in the base colour, hence the term ‘resist lustre’. There is a small chip on the spout, which can be seen in some of the images. Other than this it is in very good condition and the lustre is still bright.
