A good quality, English copper kettle. This is a slightly different shape to the normal Victorian kettles, being somewhat squatter. Made from a heavy gauge of copper, and with castellated seams, it dates from c.1860. The finial on the lid is a simple mushroom shape and this is cast in brass, as are the handle fittings and the rim of the kettle. It is in excellent condition and the tinning, to the interior, is good enough for it to be used. The only fault is pitting to the base, where it has been used on an open fire, but this would be expected on a piece of this age.
