Set of usable, 19th century copper saucepans.

SOLD

Code: F19047

A really good quality, set of ten, English copper saucepans on a wrought iron stand. These are a matched set, but they all have exactly the same form of English, triangular, steel fittings to the handles which were used by most English manufacturers in the 19th century. They all have castellated seams around the base and up the sides, and they are all made from a heavy gauge of copper. They all date between 1860 and 1890 and the stand is also Victorian, dating from c.1880. It has been re-painted. The saucepans are well graduated, ranging in size from 25.5cm diameter down to 9cm. diameter, and the stand is 147.5 cm. high. Eight pans sit on the stand whilst the other two hang on the hooks, leaving plenty of hooks for further items such as frying pans, sautés pans and implements. The overall height, when the pans are on the stand, is 156cm. There are varying makers marks and owners marks on the pans. The largest, and the second to largest, both have the orb and cross symbol used by Benham’s to the base. The third to largest has a number ‘8’ to the base and is stamped ‘MAPLE & Co LTD LONDON’ to the side.  The fifth from largest has the Benham’s orb and cross to the base, the retailer’s mark ‘J. SAUNDERS DUBLIN’ to the pan, and the owners name ‘G.J. JEFFERY’ to the lid.  The fifth from smallest is marked ‘HARROD’S LTD’ to the pan. The second to smallest is engraved with the initials ‘A.F.’ to both the pan and the lid and the smallest has an ‘H’ to the base. All of these marks should be visible in the images. There are a few very small dents to the lids of two of the pans but the overall condition is excellent and we have had the whole set re-tinned so that they can be used.
