Very large, French copper preserve pan

SOLD

Code: F18166

A very large, and very deep, French copper preserve pan. The base to this pan is slightly rounded and, originally, it would have been used on an open fire. Now it could still be used on gas but it would be no good on electric or an Aga, where the whole of the base of the pan needs to make contact with the heat. It has fairly plain, rustic, brass handles to either side and there is a castellated seam running around the base of the pan. It is made from a very heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1850. There is slight pitting to the copper in the base of the pan, from use, and there is very slight denting to the copper on the side of the pan. There is also a mark in the copper, which looks like a scratch, but it is in the copper. This can be seen in the images.
The pan measures 48.2cm diameter by 21.8cm high and the overall dimensions, including the handles, are 53.5cm wide by 29cm. high.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £65. Western Europe add £20.
