A fine quality, early 19th century, Wedgwood terracotta vase with enamel decoration. This vase is marked ‘WEDGWOOD’ and there is also a small impressed mark which is known as the ‘moustache’ mark. It dates from c.1820. The decoration, which takes its’ influence from the Chinese, consists of brightly coloured, raised enamel flowers which are also highlighted with gilding. Wedgwood started this form of decoration in 1815 and called it “Capri Ware”. It was produced on both the terracotta and the basalt bodies.
This vase is a lovely example, very lightly potted, and it is in excellent condition.
