A pair of very fine quality, early 19th century, Wedgwood basalt vases with enamel decoration. These vases are both marked ‘WEDGWOOD’ and there is also a small impressed mark which is known as the ‘moustache’ mark. They date from c.1820. The decoration, which takes its’  influence from the Chinese, consists of brightly coloured, raised enamel flowers which are also highlighted with gilding. Wedgwood started this form of decoration in 1815 and called it “Capri Ware”. It was produced on both the basalt and the terracotta bodies.

These are really good examples, very lightly potted, and they are both in excellent condition.
