French casserole c.1860

A 19th century, French copper casserole with a steel, side handle. This style of pan can be used on top of the stove, and transferred into the oven. It is ideal for this as the steel handle is quite short and easily fits into even a fairly small oven. This is a good quality piece dating from c.1860. It is stamped with a number '25' to both the lid and the side of the pan. This relates to the length of the pan in centimetres. The pan measures 25cm. long by 15cm. wide by 13cm deep and the overall length, including the steel handle is 32.7cm. It is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, it has castellated seams around the base and up the side and it has an ornate brass handle to the lid. It is in excellent condition and the interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used.
