An early 19th century, English pearlware mug. This is hand decorated with enamels. It is named and dated 'James Rate Born Novr 14 1814'. This is in a brown enamel which is now quite worn. Around this is are garlands of flowers in red and green. The red enamel is still quite bright but the enamelling of the green leaves is also faded. There is a small, underglaze chip to the edge of the foot and an even smaller overglaze chip to the underside of the foot.
