A good quality, 19th century, copper daubiere or brasing pan. This is French and it dates from c.1860. It is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and it has nicely castellated seams around the base and up the side. There is also a seam across the lid, where the lid has been made from two pieces of copper. This adds character to the piece. Both the pan and lid are engraved with the letter ‘R’, which would have been the initial of a previous owner. Hot coals were placed into the lid of this type of pan so that the contents cooked from above as well as below. This one is in excellent condition but the tinning, to the interior, is worn.
