A Copeland pottery jelly mould with a sturgeon to the base. This has an impressed ‘COPELAND’ mark to the base and it dates from c.1860. The design in the base is often referred to as a dolphin but it is actually a sturgeon which was the Royal fish. The sturgeon is very similar in shape to a dolphin but the sturgeon has scales whereas a dolphin doesn’t. It is also sometimes known as a ‘classical dolphin’. The design is very well moulded and would turn out well. The mould is in excellent condition.
