Minton pottery mould of a sheep.

SOLD

Code: G19846

A lovely, 19th century, Minton jelly mould in the shape of a recumbent sheep. This mould is quite heavily potted, in earthenware, and it date from c.1850. Although it does not bear a manufacturers mark it was made by the Minton factory. The design is illustrated in Minton’s 1848 catalogue, and Minton moulds were always made in the same, recognisable form. It has an impressed number ‘9’ to the base, which relates to the size in inches, and there is also an impressed workman’s mark.

The moulding is very well detailed and the result, when turned out, is very naturalistic.
