Silver lustre jug on buff ground

SOLD

Code: G20091

A small, early 19th century, silver resist lustre jug on a buff coloured ground. To achieve this effect, with the silver lustre, the design was painted onto the piece using oils and then the item was dipped in the lustre glaze. The oils resisted the glaze so the design shows through in the base colour of the pottery. This piece is more unusual in that the body of the pot is first coated with a bluff glaze. It is decorated with a wide band of flowers and foliage and there is a geometric border to the rim.

It is English and it dates from c.1820.

Dimensions: Height 6.7cm. Width 10.5cm. Diameter 7.2cm.

The spout has a large area of bad restoration.
