19th century, rectangular saucepan

SOLD

Code: F19454

A 19th century, rectangular copper saucepan and cover. This shape of pan was used for cooking small joints of meats, such as boiling a ham or a joint of salt beef. The pan also has a relatively short handle so that it can be used in the oven as well as on the hob. This is an English example, with the typical English, triangular form of steel handle fitting. It is well made, from a very heavy gauge of copper, and it has castellated seams. The lid has an attractive, brass handle and also a small brass loop so that it can hang when not in use.

It dates from c.1860 and is in excellent condition. The interior has been re-tinned. So that it can be used.

Dimensions: Length of pan 26.5cm. Width of pan 14.8cm. Depth of pan 13.5cm. Total width of pan and handle 34cm.
