A nice quality, Victorian bread knife with a well carved, beechwood handle. This was probably made for a left handed person as the carved decoration on the handle is on the opposite side to normal so it does not sit comfortably in the right hand whereas it does in the left. It dates from c.1860. The handle is carved with wheat and long leaves and the blade is engraved with ”Bread Knife”. There was, originally, a makers marks but both this and the other wording is now very worn from use. There is very slight pitting to the blade, from use, and there are two short hairline cracks in the wood.
Dimensions: Length 30.5cm. Width of blade 3.2cm. Diameter of handle 3cm.
