A nineteenth century, French copper skimmer. This type of implement was used for skimming the scum from jams and chutneys when making preserves. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. The end of the handle is curled, like a shepherd’s crook, so that it can hang.
It is in excellent condition.
