An early 19th century, French copper cider measure. This shape of measure was made in a number of sizes and they were made and used mainly in Normandy in Northern France. This large example is made from a very heavy gauge of copper, it has castellated seams, and it dates from c.1830. It is unusual in that the section above the handle, which would have had a low cut out shape, has been filled to enable the jug to hold more. This adds character to the piece which is in excellent condition. It is a very decorative shape which would look good filled with a large, floral arrangement or dried flowers.
Dimensions: Height 43cm. Diameter 28cm. Width, including handle, 36cm.
