Unusual Copper Terrine Mould

SOLD

Code: H20744

An unusual, Victorian copper mould made by Benham and Froud. Although a fairly simple shape this is quite a rare mould and would possibly have been used for moulding a type of bread or cake or even a meat terrine. It is stamped, to one end, with the orb and cross symbol used by Benham above the pattern number ‘650’. To the opposite end it is engraved “B & F”. It is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper and dates from c.1870. There is very slight denting to the copper and there are some traces of tin on the outside of the mould. It is possible, from this, that it would have been tinned on the outside so that it could be stood in a bain marie. The tinning, to the interior, is worn.

Dimensions: Length 19cm. Width 8.6cm. Height 7cm.
