A lovely quality, small Sunderland lustre jug. This is finely potted in creamware and is decorated with transfer printed, seafaring poems, “Grog is the Seamans delight” and “The man doom’d to sail”. These are surrounded with prints of ships and floral borders which are highlighted with pink lustre and polychrome enamels. There is a small piece of kiln grit stuck in the glaze just beneath the spout. Otherwise the jug is in excellent condition and both the lustre and the enamels are still in beautiful, bright condition. It dates from c.1820.
