A fine quality, brass and steel felt iron with a turned beechwood handle. This type of iron was used for making felt or lace decorations for ornamenting hats. The fabric was washed and starched and then placed into the brass section. The steel section was then pressed into the fabric which would be trimmed and formed into the leaf shape. This is a very good example, with super quality moulding, and it is in excellent condition. It dates from c.1890.
