A 19th century, French copper, sugar spinner. Sugar spinners were used for doing fancy sugar work for decorating ice creams and desserts. The sugar would be caramelised in the spinner and then poured through the narrow spouts to form basket shapes or other ornamentation. They were also used for chocolate and this example has a central divider so that you could work with two different types of chocolate together. It has a simple, carved wooden handle and dates from c.1860. It is in very good condition.
