Large, Oval Gratin Dish

A large, nineteenth century, French, oval copper gratin dish. This is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper, and it has a rolled rim. Originally there were folding brass handles at either end but one of these is now missing although the fitting is still there. It dates from c.1880. It is in good condition, with just a couple of small marks to the copper on the base from use. The interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used. This type of dish is ideal for dauphinoise potatoes, or a vegetable gratin, and can be taken straight from the oven to the table. It is also large enough to take a small joint of meat or fish.
