19th Century Ice Cream Mould

SOLD

Code: H21175

A nineteenth century, copper ice cream bombe mould. This type of mould, with the tight fitting lid and detachable, brass foot was use for moulding ice cream and also doubled as a pudding mould. To make an ice cream bombe you would line the mould with ice cream, fill the centre with a chocolate or fruit sauce, and the cover the top with more ice cream. Once the ice cream had set it would be taken to the table and, when cut into, the sauce would  explode out, hence the name bombe. This mould is made from a heavy gauge of copper, it is English and it dates from c.1880. There are a couple of small marks on the lid, from use, but otherwise it is in very good condition. The tinning, to the interior, is still in good, usable condition.

Dimensions: Diameter 10.8cm. Height 13.4cm.
