A fabulous quality, 19th century, English copper stockpot. Both the stockpot and cover are marked with the initials “E V W” within a bell shaped stamp. This is the mark of Edward Villers Wilkes who had a copper works in Birmingham from the 1820’s. This piece dates from c.1860. It is well made, from a very heavy gauge of copper, and has castellated seams around the base and up the side. There are the standard form of English brass handles to the sides of the pot but those to the lid are a particularly unusual, and very decorative shape. The flat lid, with the handles on the sides, was made this way so that it could double as a sauté pan. This is probably one of the best stockpots that we have had and it is in excellent condition. The interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used.
Dimensions: Diameter of pot 24.5cm. Height 25.5cm. Overall width including the handles 35cm.
